The Army Commendation Medal was established on December 18, 1945. It is awarded to recognize acts of achievement or meritorious service of junior soldiers or to general officers for acts of noncombatant-related heroism which do not meet the requirements for an award of the Soldier’s Medal. The medal is boxed in a hinged dark blue leatherette presentation case with a gold design and the words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA on the lid at the bottom right. The medal rests on an off white velvet covered insert that rests in the bottom of the box. It is also protected by two pieces of foam that were included for shipping/storage. Included with the set is the Army Commendation Medal, campaign ribbon for the medal, and the enameled mini campaign lapel ribbon. I purchased this set in the mid 1980s so it would have to at least date back to that time. A very nice set!
